Mini-Grant Funding for Under 21 Substance Abuse Prevention Activities for FY 2018

The Collaboration Council announces the availability of mini-grant funding to help community-based organizations deliver activities to middle and high school youth and those under age 21 that will help prevent their illegal use and abuse of alcohol, marijuana, over-the-counter, prescription and/or other drugs. Grants can range from $500 to $1,000; applicants must provide a local match (cash, in-kind) equal to 30% of the requested mini-grant amount. Applications are due November 1, 2017, 4:00 p.m.
Expenses incurred for projects funded via these grants must begin after January 1, 2018 and conclude by May 31, 2018
This is part of the Collaboration Council led Many Voices for Smart Choices – Montgomery County Alliance to Prevent Youth Substance Abuse. Funding comes from the Montgomery County government. Save a Life Montgomery: Opioid and Substance Abuse Community Forum

October is National Substance Abuse Prevention Month and the Many Voices for Smart Choices™ Coalition* will be hosting a special event–Save a Life Montgomery Community Forum.

Saturday October 21, 2017 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM EDT

Doors will open at noon to allow attendees time to visit the information pathway and resource tables. Walk-ins are welcome and may register at the door. There is no cost to attend this event and all community members are welcome. This program will provide current information to attendees on medical, legal, and behavioral issues and supports related to opioid and substance abuse. This forum is designed to address unique issues among parents, caregivers, and youth. Activities include: • an information pathway of county statistics and personal stories • resource tables providing information about relevant local services and supports • keynote speakers, including: two-time Super Bowl Champion Dexter Manley • presentation of youth PSA video and poster contest award winners • information about the Good Samaritan law • interactive demonstrations and reflection activities especially for youth (note: SSL hours are available for this event) • behavioral and health changes that occur in those with current substance abuse issues • an introduction to Naloxone and panel discussion with a Q&A session
